Q: Hoist speeds? A: 250 fpm variable – FM pendant (10′ below hoist it slows to 100 fpm and 5′ from full out it slows to 50 fpm). 100 fpm fixed – cyclic control (50 fpm last 10′ up and 5′ down). 85 fpm fixed – back upcontrol.
Q: Engagement of the slip clutch? A: Clutch engages at 1200 lbs. – does not prevent cable breaking/parting from shock loading.
Q: Hoist heat exchange? A: The cooling fan is turned on with the hoist control switch in all or cockpit. The fan blows cooling air on a heat exchanger (cooler).
Q: Hydraulic overheat light? A: A hydraulic overheat light illuminates on the hoist panel at 115 °C. The light is located on the back up control panel in the cabin. Back up pump operations should stop when the light illuminates. The light will be inoperable in back up control.
Q: How is the hoist power? A: The hoist is powered by the back up pump.
Q: Overhead hoist master switch? A: Activates the cooling fan and designates shear authority (cockpit, all, off). If the switch is in cockpit, the crew can operate the hoist, but they cannot shear.
Q: Pendant control switch and button? A: Variable control wheel and cargo hook release button.
Q: Crewman hover trim control panel functions? A: Fixed grip – variable control wheel, hover trim control (crew hover), dome light rheostat, trim cateye (crew hover), hoist shear switch (covered – not for cargo hook).
Q: Rescue hoist control panel switches and buttons? A: Back up control and normal control buttons, back up control up/down switch and hydraulic hoist overheat light.
Q: Pilot’s hoist controls? A: Cyclic hoist control, emergency release button (guarded – hoist and hook). Cyclic control takes priority over fixed grip and pendant control.
Q: Function of speed limiting switches? A: Slows the hoist last 10′ up and 5′ down.
Q: Full up/down limit switches? A: Stops the hoist from jamming the rubber stop into the hoist (inoperable in back up control) and full down (always operative).
Q: Priority valve function? A: Shuts the hoist down when hydraulic pressure decreases below about 2200 psi and allows for operation to resume when pressure reaches about 2500 psi.
Q: Description of hoist operation? A: The hoist uses a servo and solenoid to direct hydraulic pressure to drive the hoist in the direction and the speed commanded by the controls.
Q: Cargo hook capacity? A: 6000 lbs.
Q: Accomplishment of cargo hook normal release? A: Accomplished by the cyclic buttons and a button on the hoist pendant.
Q: Accomplishment of emergency release? A: Accomplished by the covered cyclic emergency release button (inoperable when the cargo hook is safed and inoperable when the helo has weight on wheels). Also, can be conducted by manual release at the hook.
Q: Function of the armed/safe switch? A: In the safe position you can receive a load, but you cannont get rid of it with normal release or emergency release.
Q: Cargo hook advisories? A: Hook armed and hook open.
Q: Function of emergency release overhead switch? A: Putting the switch in open and short allows you to test the emergency release circuitry without firing the squib.
Q: Cargo hook description and function? A: The cargo hook is a kit that is mounted to the AC at the center of gravity. It is limited to 6000 lbs. When not in use the assembly rotates into the well. A “squib” cartridge is included in the assembly for emergency release as are cannon plugs that allow electrical signals from the aircraft.
Q: Location of normal release buttons? A: The pilot normal release buttons are located on the cyclic and the crewman’s pendant.
Q: Location of the cockpit emergency release button? A: Located on the cyclic under a guarded cover. The hook must be “armed” to use.
Q: Location of the crew manual release? A: A cable on the assembly that is accessed through a small hatch in the floor.
Q: Power and cargo hook circuit breakers? A: There are two that provide power for normal operation, and there are two that provide power for emergency operation. All power is DC.
Q: WOW interaction with cargo hook function? A: Weight on wheels prohibits the use of the emergency release buttons.
Q: Cargo hook test caution? A: During the emergency release test make sure hoist control is off and the cargo hook switch is in “open” or “short” NOT “normal”.
