MH60T Trivia #476-500
This trivia series distills over 20 years of flight manual study into 500+ focused questions and answers, posted in 25 question sets. It’s not a substitute for the manual, but rather an aid to facilitate study and strengthen airmanship. During your review, ask yourself: How is this operationally relevant? Do I need to memorize it, or just be familiar with it? Should I review more on this topic?
- Q: How do you terminate the climb on an auto depart?
A: Collective trim will engage RADALT HOLD at the current altitude.
- Q: When are the RADALT CAWS advisories heard?
A: “100′” at 100′ unless auto approach or hover coupler is engaged, “altitude, altitude” at your bug setting, “RADALT fail” during failure.
- Q: Pressing the cyclic EMER REL activates what and when?
A: Weight off wheels, if the cargo hook is armed, the hook will be forced open. If the overhead hoist control is in COCKPIT or ALL, the cable will be sheared.
- Q: If the overhead hoist control switch is in the COCKPIT position, which hoist control stations are operable?
A: The crewman pendant hoist switch, hand grip hoist control and cyclic grip hoist control are operative.
- Q: If the overhead hoist control switch is in the COCKPIT position, how is the hoist shear affected?
A: Cabin position cannot shear the hoist.
- Q: How does the position of the hoist switch affect the hoist fan?
A: ALL or COCKPIT turns the fan on. Leaving the switch in the ALL or COCKPIT position can burn out the fan motor which results in a burning acrid smell that can be alarming until it is determined that it is coming from the hoist fan.
- Q: What are the four options for swimmer deployments?
A: Direct, sling, free fall, harness (with or without sling).
- Q: Swimmer (only) recovery from free fall, harness and sling deployments?
A: Bare hook (with or without weight bag and/or sling).
- Q: Survivor recoveries from free fall, harness and sling deployments?
A: Litter, basket, MADPU and SADPU.
- Q: Swimmer and survivor recoveries from a direct deployment?
A: Physical grip, quick strop and double lift.
- Q: When do you “check swimmer” during a harness with trail line deployment of a swimmer to a vessel?
A: Before you begin the hoist (prior to trail line delivery).
- Q: Check swimmer altitude during a free fall?
A: No higher than 30’.
- Q: Free fall altitude?
A: No higher than 15’, water depth no less than 12’, day.
- Q: Max height for physical grip training?
A: 10’.
- Q: Recommended height for repositioning swimmer and survivor via physical grip in high surf conditions?
A: 10’ AWL.
- Q: Where should swimmer be lowered on the wave?
A: On the backside of the preceding wave crest down to the trough.
- Q: Where is the crewman’s emergency release switch?
A: It is a covered switch on the crewman’s hover trim control panel.
- Q: Where is the crewman’s cargo hook release switch?
A: On the hoist pendant.
- Q: Within how many miles of a 406 EPIRB should you be able to hear and DF 121.5?
A: 5.
- Q: ELT DF frequency?
A: 121.5, 243.0
- Q: Optimal DF altitudes?
A: 2-4000′ AWL over open water, 4-6000′ AGL over land.
- Q: When is a trail line not used with a litter?
A: Trail line shall be used for litter hoists, except water hoists.
- Q: Trail line and water hoists?
A: A trail line shall not be used to deliver any device to a rescue swimmer in the water.
- Q: When shall you lock the hoist hook?
A: Vertical surface swimmer deployments and litter recoveries.
- Q: When should you lock the hoist hook?
A: Litter deliveries and basket deliveries and recoveries.
