Iron Sharpens Iron
If you’ve read some of the OPI posts, you know I like metaphors. “Iron sharpens iron” is one of my favorites. Anyone who has achieved an exceptional level of performance knows it cannot be done alone. Exceptional performers require others to push them to higher levels to establish the pathways necessary for further success. I appreciate the image of a forge where iron is heated to extreme temperatures and slammed with hammers to shape and sharpen it. To perform exceptionally in our craft, we all need to turn up the “heat” and hold each other to a high standard, while simultaneously providing a high level of support. My hope is that “Forging Airmanship” posts will help facilitate professional development.
For years, the only time I have been able to consistently study is in the early mornings. However, when my children were young, evenings were best. Regardless of the timing, sessions were always more efficient when study material was readily available. I wanted to create a means for aviators to have material accessible whenever they can make a few minutes to develop their craft.
